| | An Introduction to NAPCE | NAPCE was founded in 1982 to establish links between all those who have an interest in Pastoral Care and Personal-social education. It now has a membership of 600, which consists of individuals, schools, LEAs and higher education providers who work in support of Pastoral Care and PSE at all levels. These are mainly secondary schools, but also include primary and further education, advisers, inspectors, lecturers, consultants and many more.
NAPCE concerns are the achievement of all pupils across the whole curriculum, recording achievement, guidance and personal-social education, and the management of these in a whole school approach. Our aims are:
To support all who have a professional concern for pastoral care.
To promote the theoretical study of pastoral care in education.
To disseminate good practice in pastoral care in education.
To promote the education, training and development of those engaged in pastoral care.
To liaise with other organizations having similar objects.
NAPCE provides support, specialist information and expertise by producing discussion documents and position statements and submitting evidence to DfES and other relevant bodies and organising training events nationally. Information is also given through its quarterly journal Pastoral Care in Education and advice can be obtained from elected Executive Officers at NAPCE. The Association is a registered charity with a National Executive Committee.
